The history of Apricale
The small village of Apricale has a very long history behind it, as evidenced by the discovery of Celtic burial mounds dating back to 5500 BC. The foundation of this Ligurian village took place in the ninth century. Today is still preserved the ancient medieval structure. Since 1270 the village belonged to the Doria di Dolce acqua.
The statutes of the municipality are among the oldest in Liguria and date back to 1267. These documents show that the inhabitants had a certain autonomy. In the following centuries the fate of Apricale is linked to that of the fief of the Doria as in 1523 when Bartolomeo Doria killed his uncle causing the wrath of Agostino Grimaldi, brother of the victim, who besieged the village.
Despite the wars, famines, invasions and diseases Apricale managed to get to the Jacobin period with a homogeneous population thanks to its particular geographical position. Since the 60s of the ‘900 began the attempt to revive the country in particular with regard to the tourist aspect.
