Artisan workshop in Liguria

The inauguration of master goldsmith Antonio Oliveri’s, workshop dates back to 1884 when he started filigree work in the center of Liguria. Thus giving birth to a tradition that was carried out by others, until there were 33 laboratories active in the area. And it is for this reason that the artisans of Campo are considered heirs of those who worked in creating and prospering this art. One of the goldsmiths’ laboratories in Campo Ligure certainly worth mentioning is Il Gioiello.

Il Gioiello has handed down this art intact. The proof ? In this laboratory the “bruscelle”, pliers of different sizes characteristic of the ancient goldsmith’s work, are still used today, together with the torch to weld the silver threads on a tile called the ciapela.

Starting from the casting, which allows the transformation of the precious raw metal into rods ready for processing. To then move on to the wire drawing, the phase in which the rods are passed through a machine to be reduced into wires of two millimeters in diameter. And to the twist, which sees the assembly in a long braid of different threads, until obtaining the so-called garnet.

Subsequently, the processing goes through the phases of rolling, scrapping and filling, thanks to which – with appropriate machinery – the garnet thread gradually assumes the characteristic aspects of the filigree. To then be adapted to the pre-established design, and finally soldered, filled with minute forms and structures (rizzetti, panetti, resche). A painstaking job that the goldsmith workshops in Campo Ligure like this one perform.

What to find in this workshop

The offer of the shop ranges from rings and wedding rings to bracelets, from pendants to necklaces, through to earrings, but also watches and creations made to order by customers.
