The squares and the monuments

To discover the marvel and splendor of this city we suggest you start your first day by visiting some of the squares and streets of the historic center. Here you can discover the exceptional monuments that are located in the city and are the work of the greatest artists in history.

The two best-known squares are:

  • Piazza Duomo
  • Piazza della Signoria.

In short, in the first one you will find the cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with the famous dome painted by Brunelleschi. Here also is the Giotto bell tower and the Baptistery.

Piazza della Signoria is a little further on and has been for centuries the center of Florentine life. Here you will see Palazzo Vecchio and the Loggia dei Lanzi. Here you will also find the famous Fountain of Neptune by Ammannati and a monument created by Giambologna depicting Cosimo I.

We suggest you conclude the first day with a visit to Palazzo Pitti, to see its museums. These are:

On the second day we suggest you start with a visit to the Uffizi Gallery and admire this incredible museum and the works of art it contains, among the most important in Italy. The suggestion is to book the admission ticket in advance as it is one of the most visited places in the world. A complete visit requires a whole morning but it is definitely worth it. Il ponte Vecchio

Once you have left the Uffizi, we advise you to take a walk to the Ponte Vecchio to reach the Oltrearno area where Palazzo Pitti is located. The bridge is one of the most famous in the world. It is located downstream of the river Arno and crosses it for a length of 150 meters. Its structure consists of three wide passes and a lowered arch. Its construction was revolutionary and was used as an example for the realization of other famous bridges.

How to reach it

Being also the capital of the Tuscany region, Florence is a major railway and motorway junction and therefore well connected. Its airport, named after the Italian navigator Amerigo Vespucci, is just a few kilometers from the city center.
