The history of the Turin Book Fair
The exhibition was born in 1986 from an idea of Angelo Pezzana, a bookseller from Turin, and Guido Accornero, also an entrepreneur from Turin. The first edition was held in 1988 at the Turin exhibitions. One of the most interesting features of the event that has represented it since its birth is the presence of an annual “theme”.
Each edition of the Turin Book Fair has a common thread linking the main conferences that take place within the fair. The theme of the first historical edition was: “Brief instructions for a compass”.
In 1998 to overcome the economic and organizational difficulties is taken over by the Piedmont region, the Province of Turin and the city of Turin. Its promotion and cultural project are entrusted to the Foundation for Book, Music and Culture. The event changes and becomes a book fair. In 2001, the tradition of hosting a foreign country each year was inaugurated. Since 2010, after years of great growth, it has been called the International Book Fair.
