Italian Truffle Fair 2018: info and details

The Alba truffle fair has now reached its 88th edition. It’s a festival that, like every year, is held during the period between October and November, so encompassing the days of 1st and 2nd November, days dedicated to All Saints and the memory of passed away dear ones, respectively.

The fair will remain open to visitors for many weekends in a row, so allowing everyone to have the opportunity to visit it. There will be markets open to the public and parallel events, from sensory tastings to concerts, to exhibitions and various themes dedicated to children. On the first Sunday of October, you will also be able to attend the fun donkey palio, a true pearl of local folklore, and its related events.

Now in its 88th yearly edition, the AlbaTruffle Fair welcomes hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. The small Piedmontese town will once again host the famous fair in the period from October 6th to November 25th 2018. All the events that has made this fair known worldwide are held only during the weekends. Obviously the central theme is the famous Alba truffle, a product of great value extremely sought after and available in limited quantities, and often at prohibitive prices.

Fortunately, however, only a very little raw ingredient is needed to make a dish of unique flavor with a good fresh truffle. The truffle is expensive but has the advantage of giving a new twist to dishes even in infinitesimal doses. You can access the fair every Saturday and Sunday non-stop from 9.30a.m. to 7.30p.m. with special openings on 1st and 2nd November. Tickets can be purchased online on the official website (by choosing the date) at € 3,50 but is free to anyone buying a sensory or tasting experience.

Truffle Fair Alba 2018: the program

There will be many types of events during the days dedicated to the Alba 2018 Truffle Fair. Among these, there will be exhibitions, concerts and folk events, along with small moments of entertainment dedicated to children and teenagers. Obviously the focus will be on the events dedicated to truffles, from normal purchase to participation to auctions for the finest pieces, to visiting sensory analysis laboratories and events dedicated to tasting, often sponsored by exceptional guests, as experts in the sector or great chefs.

How to reach the Truffle Fair

Reaching the town of Alba is not difficult at all. The town is well connected to nearby Torino, which being one of the main Italian cities is at easy reach both by land and by air. To reach Alba by car, simply take the Marene Cherasco exit if you come from the A6 Torino – Savona, or the Asti East exit if you come from the A21, then take the A33 Asti-Cuneo in the Alba direction. As for the trains, all the useful information can be found on the official Trenitalia website. The nearest airports are those of Turin Caselle and Cuneo Levaldigi, from where you can find public transport links.

The Alba donkey Palio: useful information

There is also another event celebrated on the occasion of the Truffle Fair 2018, beloved by the inhabitants of Alba and known in all the surrounding areas. We are talking about the donkey race, which takes place during the first Sunday of October and that, a little like the Siena palio, sees the representatives of the nine villages of the city compete in a crazy donkey race to conquer the prized “drape”. The palio is preceded by a parade of over a thousand people and numerous historical re-enactments. Tickets can be purchased online on the official website of the Truffle Fair and the event will take place at Piazza Cagnasso, at 10.00 am – 6.00 pm.
