The bottom is rocky but become sandy, reaching a depth of about 20 meters . Is located in the uninhabited southern part of the island, in fact, to reach it is a dirt road narrow and steep, difficult access by cars, why the private bay still retains much of its natural and wild charm. It is a wide flat platform jutting out over the sea, as indicated by the Arabic root word bàlat, which means slab of stone. The place’s name instead seems to derive from an act of arms occurred in the second half of 1700, when three pirate galleys attempted, on a spring night calm, to dock to occupy the island and make slaves. The attack was foiled however by the population, and the captured pirates were enslaved. In memory of this event, the bay was now renamed Balata dei Turchi.

A unique and a precious treasure for the whole of Italy, an ancient natural port of the pirates surrounded by legends, a quiet corner between sea and sky where you can isolate and relax lost with the look in exterminated Sicilian sunsets between Africa and Sicily.
