Villa di San Martino

In the middle of the green countryside about 5 km from Portoferraio, Villa San Martino was once the residence where Napoleon lived in exile. The majestic neoclassical architecture was built by the Count Demidoff, a distant relative of the great general who in 1851 wanted to build an environment worthy of the imperial era, using his collection of Napoleonic memorabilia. These include paintings and miniatures, treasures from the Egyptian campaign and gorgeous tapestries desired by Napoleon himself.
