Petronius 1926 ties are designed for an elegant man and his attention to detail; this excellence of Made in Italy, which still offers products made entirely by hand, is famous all over the world.
The founder of Petronius 1926, Luigi Wollisch, was a passionate Latinist and for this reason the ancient necktie factory bears the name of Tito Petronio: at the time of Nero, he was a Roman writer and politician with great aesthetic qualities, so much so that he was nicknamed “Arbiter elegantiae“, that is, judge of refinement. Luigi Wollisch was fascinated by the character for his taste and elegance, which embodied exactly the values of Petronius 1926, so much so that he chose it as a symbol of the company. Petronius 1926 has in fact ancient roots that represent the tradition of Italian craftsmanship.
The first workshop was opened in Milan, in the mid-twenties in via Rugabella, and was specialized from the beginning in the production of ties made entirely by hand with fabrics of the highest quality. Thanks to a loyal clientele that immediately appreciated the value of the products, the success led the brand to expand and move the laboratory in Palazzo Borromeo d’Adda in the nerve center of Milanese fashion
One of the main strengths of the brand is to be a family business: this has allowed, from generation to generation to maintain high values that have always characterized Petronius 1926.
From Luigi Wollisch the management passed to his son Gastone, who with great determination worked ardently to expand the production of the tie shop throughout the Italian peninsula, thus making it a symbol of Made in Italy.
Petronius 1926 ties are made with passion and dedication following a unique philosophy: the tie is an essential accessory to enhance the male dress, it must therefore be of excellent quality and able to enhance the elegance of the wearer. While it may seem like a simple accessory, production actually requires careful and rigorous work.
To precede the manufacture of each tie there is the search for the best fabrics, colors and designs so that reflect the refined style of the brand; For example, silk is selected in the most famous silk factories in the world, in particular those of the district of Como. As for the actual packaging, the first step is that of the cut, made by hand at 45 º with respect to the straight thread of the fabric: two or three cuts are made on fabric parts of different sizes according to the type of tie to be made.
These parts are then joined by machine and the tie’s closing caps are added; it is noteworthy that for this operation the original sewing machines of the twenties are still used.
Then the inside of the tie is placed and the centering of the drawing is optimized, to then arrive at the final stage of the tie closure, which is sewn by hand. The last step is quality control, each Petronius 1926 product must fully meet the required standards of excellence. In addition to ties, the company also makes other accessories such as pocket clutch, scarves, both for men and women, which are also distinguished by the excellent materials and unique style.
Currently, it is the third generation of the Wollisch to lead Petronius 1926: Luigi, Gigliola and Simona. Luigi, together with his sister Gigliola, takes care of the creative direction, creating new fantasies and colours in step with current trends. Gigliola is also dedicated to international relations to encourage the export of products worldwide. Simona takes an active part in the work within the laboratory, both at the production and management level, always keeping the level of quality monitored. . The company also has a historical archive where an infinity of vintage fabrics representing the history of the Italian tie are collected.
