Still not sure where to go on holiday? Stressed about all the Covid-related protocols, rules and health concerns? No worries! Here’s a round-up of the best Italian Covid-free summer destinations recommended by Italian Traditions.

August is upon us and so are the long-awaited summer holidays. So, the most asked question is: where can I go without having to worry about Covid? After 18 months of pandemic, we are all aware that to go back to normal we need to follow the safety measures in place. Social distancing, wearing masks when talking to people, hand sanitizer always within reach… basically this is the new normal! But let’s be honest, who wouldn’t want to deal with all of this, at least for a few hours?

Well, while we are still looking for a place that does not require any health protocols, here is a roundup of the best Italian Covid-free summer destinations, where Covid-induced stress takes less of a toll, and where you will be able to relax and enjoy some time off.

Adventures in the mountains

The mountains are a must-see of the summer season, but this doesn’t mean that they are crawling with people everywhere, so we can safely include it in the list of Italian Covid-free summer destinations. Whether you go for the Alpes in the north of Italy, or lower ones, it doesn’t matter. To nature lovers, in fact, mountains are the place to be to enjoy camping or hiking, steering clear from large crowds and thus avoiding having to have masks on at all times to prevent outbreaks.

Contact with nature in all its aspects will easily have you forget all about the pandemic! To make the experience even better, a nice camping trip in a tent or RV might be just what you need. But be careful to plan your stay where rules allow it!

Far from Covid-induced stress on a sailing boat

The experience of sailing is one of those that must done at least once in a lifetime. On a sailing boat any seaside destination becomes next level. Choosing to travel in an organized tour, with a boat and a small crew (or perhaps renting one for exclusive use), it is quite easy to reach a variety of beautiful Italian Covid-free destinations.

Generally, you will be required to get tested or to be vaccinated before boarding, just like on a cruise, and you can dock anywhere. Big plus: if we don’t want to mix with the crowd on the ground, we can just stay on the boat and enjoy the beauty of the sea. Great, right?

A walk in the towns of the Appennines, away from Covid-related stress

The Appennines are the backbone of our country, a mountain range that goes from north to south and that, although different from the majestic Alpes, is a beautiful destination in its own right. Featuring lush vegetation and native fauna, the Appennines host several ancient towns, so unique that many of them are part of the I Borghi più belli d’Italia (Italy’s most beautiful towns) association.

A few examples are the towns of Orvinio, in the Rieti province, Fiumalbo, in the Modena province, Castiglione della Garfagnana, in the Lucca province, and so many others. The big upside of visiting a town in the Appennines is the small scale which means no mainstream tourism. Also, in the evening the temperature drops. Perfect destinations for some Covid-free summer holidays.

Stress-free vacation in the countryside

Our country is famous for having a bit of everything, so obviously, we had to include the countryside as one of the Italian Covid-free destinationsfor the summer holidays. The countryside is quite a vague term, as all regions in Italy offer this kind of setting. And in fact, it is not so much about specific places but more about a type of holidayat the pace of Italy’s beautiful countryside.

The countryside in Tuscany, for example, is one of the most famous, featuring long stretches of meadows, big trees and ancient buildings in which to stay. But like Tuscany, there are so many other regions that offer similar settings, all great to take some time for yourself and relax, without having to think about social distancing.

Glamping: nature, relax and comfort

A trend of recent years, particularly appreciated during the pandemic, is glamping. Conceived as a way to mix the practical aspect of traditional camping with the comfort of a hotel, glamping is now available everywhere in Italy. They are facilities that feature see-through “bubbles” inside of which there is a bed, set in beautiful natural landscapes such as woods and forests.

This way, in addition to giving the stay a little romantic touch – you can see the stars from your bed! – many of these facilities are eco-friendly and offer comfort in line with their vision. You can find eco-friendly bedding, biologic soap and locally grown food for breakfast, which often is had in the privacy of one’s own bubble, avoiding having to meet other people. Ideal as Italian Covid-free summer destination, with your partner or with friends.
