Vermentino di Luni: the perfect wine for spring

Are you a wine lover and do you like to discover new flavors? Then you must absolutely taste Vermentino di Luni, a doc product from Liguria and known all over the world.

I’m talking about a very special wine, which releases notes of fields and fresh grass, excellent to combine with delicious seafood appetizers and shellfish.

But that’s not all: you must know that its history probably dates back to the era of the Roman Empire and even Pliny the Elder considered the grapes from which it is produced some of  the best in all Italy.

Precisely in Luni, once a flourishing Roman Port, the remains of which can still be seen today, wine cultivation has always been linked to the presence of the Vermentino vine.

Today it can be considered among the best Italian wines and continues to be successfully produced in different types, such as:

  • The Sarticle
  • L’Oro d’Isee
  • The Solaris.

And not only that, because there are also the whites of Luni, among which the Gladius, the Muri Grande and the Raggio di Sole stand out.

If you particularly love reds, you will find a great variety of particular flavors all to be tasted as well as sparkling wines with a unique aroma and taste.

The origins of Vermentino di Luni

If I managed to arouse your curiosity about this product, then you’ll be glad to know something more about Vermentino di Luni wine, am I right?

I will tell you that the territory in which it is produced, between the Riviera di Levante and part of the province of Massa, consists of a hilly terrain where the clay and the microclimate allow the production of wines with intense aromas.

Vermentino is one of its symbols! This wonderful wine comes from a white, semi-aromatic grape variety and everyone agrees that the first vines came from France.

Among the best wines produced on the Colli di Luni by the most famous wineries, the Doc Plinio 2013 stands out, which refers to the great Roman historian who loved the wines of this area.

Just think that there are only four thousand bottles made and if you have the pleasure of tasting a glass, you will notice a particular golden yellow color, intense and sparkling.

Not to mention the perfumes that it releases … grapefruit, sage, exotic and yellow fruit! Believe me, you will simply be enchanted!

Where to taste Vermentino di Luni in Liguria
