The air is changing, you feel a little sparkle: it’s fall, a very specific season which features nature changing its many colors. One of the best way to have a nice time on your own or with friends on a fall mild afternoon or evening is enjoying a good cocktail! So here are Italy’s best fall cocktails.
1) Blue angel
Angelo Azzurro is a cocktail whose origins are not clear: some say that is a take on the Blue Lagoon, a drink made with Vodka and Blue Curaçao; others say that is a tribute to the homonymous movie from the 30s. In any case it is a typical fall drink very famous in the 90s for its unique color: ideal as an after dinner drink it is a cocktail made with Gin, Triple Sec and Blue Curaçao mixed together in a martini glass. There is also a less alcoholic version of this drink which is the Blue Bomb where the alcohol percentage is reduces by adding some lemon juice.
2) Negroni
The iconic Negroni is one of the most appreciated fall cocktails: created by Count Camillo in 1919, is a dry and bittersweet drink made with Gin, Campari, Vermouth and Angostura Aromatic Bitter, very balanced and just great for lovers of tradition.
3) Rossini
Rossini is a fall cocktail named after famous Composer Gioacchino Rossini. It is a take on the Bellini cocktail, where Prosecco is combined with strawberries instead of peaches. It is one of the most perfect fall cocktails for a brunch or for a snack, great to be coupled with chocolate.
4) Milano-Torino
The Milano-Torino is an Italian drink quite light yet very tasty. It is a fall cocktail made with Campari and Vermouth; it was first served in Milan in 1960 by Gaspare Campari. Great for an aperitif or after dinner thanks to it simplicity and freshness.
5) Sicilian Coke
Sicilian Coke, as you may gather from its name, is a cocktail that holds together all the flavors of the Mediterranean: a sip of this drink will take you to Sicily, among citrus trees and the typical warmth of this land. It is a fall cocktail made with Averna, Limonata Amara with lemon zest and rosemary, perfect for any occasion.
6) Hugo Cocktail
The Hugo cocktail is perfect for warm fall days, when you still get to breath that summery air. Made with Prosecco, elderflower syrup, soda water and mint leaves, it was created in 2005 by Roland Gruber in Trentino-Alto Adige: very famous all over Europe, it is one of the most loved Italian cocktails and it is very popular in Germany.
7) Pirlo
Among fall cocktails there is also Pirlo which is one of the most appreciated by Italians: it was invented in Brescia and it is very similar to Aperol Spritz. It is a white wine based drink, with Campari or Aperol and sparkling water, often used as aperitif. A fun fact is that it’s name does not come from the famous soccer player but from the term “pirlo” which means to fall, just like the Campari or Aperol smoothly fall into the white wine.
8) The Godfather
The Godfather is quite a challenging drink, best to enjoy slowly, of course it takes its name from the movie “The Godfather”: it is a mix of Scotch Whiskey and amaretto, with quite a high alcohol content to be enjoyed slowly. It is said that Marlon Brando really liked this drink.
9) Tandem
Tandem is a drink invented in Emilia Romagna, a light and lively drink made with Biancosardi, Crodino and a slice of orange: perfect to drink in the afternoon, with a low alcoholic content and with a slightly bitter aftertaste with hints of citrus.
10) Garibaldi
Il Garibaldi fu inventato a Novara per celebrare l’unione di Nord e Sud Italia nel 19°esimo secolo. Si utilizza infatti Campari, tipico del nord e arance provenienti dal sud Italia: dedicato proprio a Garibaldi, ne esistono molte varianti anche ad esempio a base di rum.
