Calendar of sporting events and events not to be missed in April
April is one of the busiest months for outdoor sports. Within a few weeks you
different types of sporting events follow one another: marathons, triathlons, cycling competitions and events that
transform cities, lakesides and mountain routes into meeting places, not just for
who competes but also for those who participate as spectators. Italian Traditions selects the
most relevant events on the agenda.
April 12 is a key date for running. Wizz Air Milano returns to Milan
Marathon, starting from Corso Sempione, arriving in Piazza del Duomo and starting at
8:15. Organizers say more than 15,000 runners are expected in the city center, along
a 42.195 kilometer route that passes through the urban heart of the capital
lombard. On the same day, on the Garda, Lake Garda 42 offers two distances: the
marathon from Limone to Malcesine and the half marathon from Arco to Malcesine.
The following week, Saturday 18 April, the Idroscalo in Milan will be held on
MilanoTRI, one of the most anticipated events of the start of the season for triathlon
national. The program includes the Olympic and sprint distances, with swimming in the pelvis
of the Idroscalo, a flat cycling section and race in the park. It is proof that
recalls both those looking for the first competitive match of the year and those approaching for the
first time at the triple.
The next day, Sunday, April 19, the running calendar splits between multiple cities. A
Rome hosts the 27th edition of the Appia Run: the main track measures 19
kilometers, flanked by a distance of 7.5 kilometers, with a route that
crosses five different pavements — asphalt, cobblestones, lava base,
dirt road of the Caffarella Park and the Caracalla Thermal Baths track.
On the same day, in Rimini, the Rimini Marathon is run, which in 2026 will also host
the Italian National Marathon Championships. The Sunday program includes the
42 km, the 21 km, a 16 km and a Family Run; with the marathon start set at
9:00 am and meet in the Rotonda Lucio Battisti area, in the Grand Hotel area.
Also on April 19th, the calendar also opens to cycling with the Granfondo Torino –
Luca Ferrero Memorial. The race starts from Corso Casale at 8:30 and ends in
Strada dei Colli, in the area between Pino Torinese and Superga.
From April 20th to 24th, cycling will continue with the Tour of the Alps, a UCI stage race
ProSeries between Tyrol, South Tyrol and Trentino. The Arco-Trento is the most challenging stage:
167.8 kilometers and approximately 3,600 meters of elevation gain, with climbs such as Passo Bordala and
Redebus Pass before arriving in Trento.
On the last Sunday of the month, April 26, the road race returns. In Padua you are
plays the Padua Marathon, starting from the Stadio Euganeo at 8:30 and finishing in
Valley Meadow. On the same day, on Lake Iseo, the Sarnico Lovere Run is run,
with the 25-kilometer race, accompanied by a shorter distance and dedicated activities
even to the youngest. Two different events, one more urban and one more scenic,
which close the April calendar.
