The Fortezza da Basso

It is a Renaissance-era structure built between 1534 and 1536, designed by the architect Antonio da Sangallo for the first duke of Florence, Alessandro de ‘Medici. Today, after numerous renovations, it has 80,000 square meters of surface area of which 55,000 are covered. This makes it the ideal location for events of this kind.

How to reach it and where to stay

Consider this: Florence can be easily reached by car from the main Italian cities via the A1 A11 and A12 motorways. During the event there is free parking for visitors to the San Donato area. By train it can be easily reached from all over the peninsula. The city airport is Amerigo Vespucci which is about 4 km from the center. From here and from the visitors parking there are free shuttle buses that lead directly to Fortezza da Basso.

For the overnight stay I suggest you book at the Hotel Brunelleschi which is located in the city center. The average cost for one night is around € 150. As an alternative, I suggest La Casa dei Tintori B & B, which is also located in the historic center. The price for an overnight stay is around 95 €.
