The Botanical Garden of Padua is one of the most important and most visited attractions of the Venetian city. Most of his collections are outside. Here there is a path through the collections of plants observing the nature that for centuries has been treated and studied by man.  

In the Botanical Garden there are areas dedicated to specific environments such as the Mediterranean scrub or freshwater flowers that are grown in special pools. The visit of this extraordinary place leads to the discovery of the wonders of nature through 5 different natural environments.

The collection of the Botanical Garden is very large and is particularly diverse with over 6000 specimens. In 2014 the original part, called Horto Simplicium, was added a complex of greenhouses. This is the Garden of Biodiversity where there are 1600 specimens that live in environments that simulate different climatic conditions.

Here we move from temperate to arid areas. As for the other specimens present it is possible to observe them along the external paths. Here you can admire a very important collection of medical plants, each of which has a name tag and therapeutic properties.

In the botanical garden of Padua are also preserved poisonous plants and about 30 species of carnivorous plants. There are also some very ancient plants such as the Goethe plant that was planted in 1585. Other ancient specimens are the oriental plane, the magnolia and ginkgo that date back to 1700.

Christmas at the Padua Botanical Garden 

Every year the Botanical Garden of Padua organizes a series of events to celebrate Christmas and the arrival of the new year. In this particular time of year there are exhibitions, free guided tours and workshops that allow you to discover this wonderful place even for children.

During this period, special openings are planned up to 20 to allow visitors to live a suggestive experience to discover the incredible collection of plants. During Christmas the city of Padua of colors of lights and projections that allow you to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere. From 8 December in the Venetian city are set up the traditional Christmas markets in Piazza Eremitani and the main streets.
