The Milan Film Festival is a consolidated event, which this year sees its 23rd edition – from September 28th to October 10th – the film event has declared its intention to return to the capital of Lombardy with an international flavor. Organized in collaboration with the Municipality, the Festival is a long standing project, designed and created to make Milan a true “City of Cinema”.
There are 7 city locations involved in the Festival, which this year sees the arrival of a major film director, in the person of Gabriele Salvatores, as co-artistic director alongside Alessandro Beretta, who has led the event since 2011. Starting this year, the Milan Film Festival will also be open to independent productions and experimentation.
As usual, the program is divided into numerous sections, able to attract the attention of a wide and varied public. In the “Feature Films” section, a group of 8 films will propose innovative and transgenerational cinema, while “Short films” will propose a selection of 38 works.
From 3rd October theBASE Milano Lounge Room will host “Ultra Reality”, with a selection of 16 films in a special set designed for the occasion, while – at Palazzo Litta – “Art cinema” will propose an unpublished project signed by Alterazioni Video. “The Outsiders”, on the other hand, will be the Milan Film Festival non competing film. There is also ample space for the children’s proposal. “My Screen” will be dedicated to the teen audience, with a new section dedicated to the films preferred by the most famous protagonists of the artistic and social scene.
“Milano Film Festivalino”, on the other hand, will re-propose its exhibition dedicated to children, with invaluable international short films and workshops dedicated to creativity, focusing in particular on aspects and importance of visual language. Do not miss the “Animation Marathon”, a night dedicated to an overview of animated short films characterized by mixed technique: stop-motion, drawn animation, puppetry and digital rendering. Among the extra events we must mention, a “Walk through forgotton literature and cinema” and the Festival of the Civic School of Cinema Luchino Visconti, and a “Homage to Matteo Garrone”. On this occasion (October 1, Cineteca Spazio Oberdan), the director will meet the public to talk with the writer Antonio Scurati on the theme “cinema and stories”. Following this, the film “Roman Summer” will be screened. The entire event, will be as always accompanied by a musical program, which sees among its guests also Raiz, former voice of the Alma Megretta group. In addition, on October 5th , “The Big Lebowski. 20 years later, in a bathrobe “, is scheduled at the Anteo Palazzo del Cinema, A tribute – 20 years after its release – to the cult movie written and directed by Joel and Ethan Coen. On occasion of the special screening, a very special dress code is planned: the bathrobe. Finally, space for the Awards: “Award for Best Feature Film”, and “Award for Best Short Film”. At the end of each screening, the public will have the opportunity to vote for the feature film and the short film, which will be awarded during the final ceremony.
