Matera

Talking about wines, with Matera we deal with wine productions of Matera city in the region Basilicata. These wines in 2005 have obtained the Controlled Denomination of Origin and among Matera D.O.C. there are six types: Matera Bianco, Matera Greco, Matera Moro, Matera Primitivo, Matera Rosso e Matera Spumante.

Matera Bianco

It is produced for the great part with grape Malvasia Bianca di Basilicata (70%), grape Greco Bianco (10%) and other white berry grapes for the remaining part.

Treatment: it ferments for seven months, usually from the end of the month of March of the year next to the one of grape harvest.

Description: the colour is straw-yellow and to the smell we feel fruits and grass. Taste is dry, fresh and strong, while the proof is of eleven degrees.

Matera Greco

It is produced for the great part with grape Greco Bianco (70%) and other not aromatic and authorized white berry grapes for the remaining part.

Treatment: it ferments for seven months, usually from the end of the month of March of the year next to the one of grape harvest.

Description: the colour is straw-yellow and to the smell we feel a strong and long lasting scent of grass.

Matera Moro

It is produced for the great part with grapes Cabernet Sauvignon (60%), Primitivo (minimum 20%), Merlot (minimum 10%), Merlot (10%) and other black berry grapes.

Treatment: it ages for a year, usually from the start of the month of October of the year next to the one of grape harvest and cannot be sold before fifteen months (twelve for the ageing and three for refinement in bottle).

Description: the colour is ruby red and at the smell we feel a strong scent of grass. Taste is harmonious, dry and full-bodied, almost velvety.

Matera Primitivo

It is produced for the great part with grape Primitivo (90%) and, for the remaining, with other not aromatic and authorized black berry grapes.

Treatment: it ages for a year, usually from the start of the month of October of the year next to the one of grape harvest and cannot be sold before fifteen months (twelve for the ageing and three for refinement in bottle).

Description: the colour is ruby red, almost violet, especially after the ageing. Smell is strong and long lasting, while the taste is dry, full-bodied and harmonious, almost velvety.

Matera Rosso

It is produced for the great part with grape Sangiovese (minimum 60%), Aglianico and Primitivo (both with a minimum percentage of 10%). The remaining is made by other not aromatic and authorized in the region black berry grapes, for a maximum percentage of 20%.

Treatment: it ages for a year, usually from the start of the month of October of the year next to the one of grape harvest and cannot be sold before fifteen months (twelve for the ageing and three for refinement in bottle).

Description: the colour is ruby red and at the smell we feel fruit. Taste is harmonious and round.

Matera Spumante

It is produced for the great part with grape Malvasia di Basilicata (minimum 70%), Greco Bianco (minimum 10%) and other not aromatic and authorized in the region black berry grapes, for a maximum percentage of 20%.

Treatment: it ages for seven months usually from the end of the month of March of the year next to the one of grape harvest.

Description: the colour is straw-yellow and to the smell we feel fruit. Taste is typical and fragrant.
