In Italy many international events and exhibitions in various sectors are held every year. One of these is the Cremona International Music Festival that takes place in the Lombard city from 28th to 30th September 2018. Italian Traditions will present this event dedicated to the creation of high-quality hand crafted musical instruments. The event

From 28th to 30th September 2018, Cremona hosts what is considered to be the most relevant event in the world for professional musicians and, especially, everyone involved in the manufacture and trade of top-range musical instruments.

Cremona is the city that has given birth and at always to the most important luthier families of all time and is worldwide known as “The City of Violins”. During the three days over 300 exhibitors from all over the world will be present. There will be over 4000 products displayed in the stands. Furthermore, around 180 events will be held including concerts, seminars, presentations and historical exhibitions. Finally, some of the most important figures in the sector and journalists from the main international publications will be present.

The various sections of the fair

The Cremona Musica festival consists of several sections. These are:

  • World Music
  • Piano Experience
  • Acoustic Guitar village
  • Cremona Winds
  • Accordion Show.

The first section, dedicated to luthiers and their hand-crafted creations, represent the largest market in the world for high-end string instruments. On this occasion the best luthiers and distributors can meet with producers and dealers of accessories and musical publications. One of the special features, apart from the exhibitors, is the presence of the many high quality events organized.

The second one is the only European event dedicated to the piano and other keyboard instruments. The main objective is to support the entire world of the piano. Here there is also the possibility of meeting prestigious international figures.

The Acoustic Guitar village is the hall dedicated to acoustic, classical and modern guitar. It represents the evolution of the meeting that takes place in Sarzana. In fact, this collaboration between the two events began during the 2016 edition.

The fourth section is an exhibition of wind instruments that shows the great realities of this sector. Finally, the Accordion Show is the space dedicated to the world of the accordion.

Events related to the exhibition

One of the most interesting aspects of the Cremona Musica festival is the presence of many events related to the world of music that take place during the fair.

This way the organizers capture the interest of the general public, further to that of amateur and professional musicians, instrument makers, shopkeepers, students, teachers and music lovers. All the events can be viewed on the event website .

One of the most important events is the Cremona Music Award, a prize which is assigned annually during the festival since 2014. This is given to personalities and institutions of the music world who have distinguished themselves for excellence in their area of ​​expertise. Every year the management and the scientific committee of the event select the personalities who contributed the most to the world of music and its values. The prizes are divided into 5 categories:

  • composition
  • execution
  • projects
  • communications

A new category, dedicated to guitar luthery, has been added this year.

How to take part and visit Cremona Musica

There is an entry ticket to be purchased to access the Cremona Musica festival. This can be bought online or directly at the ticket office on the days of the fair. There are three different types with different costs. One is a three-day pass that can be purchased for 40 Euros at the ticket office or 25 Euros online. The second one is for the whole day which costs 20 Euros at the ticket office and 10 Euros online. Finally there is also a reduced daily version for children aged 6 to 12 years. This ticket costs 5 Euros and can be purchased only at the ticket offices.

Entry to the event is allowed only at certain times. Friday and Saturday it is open from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00p.m. and on Sunday from 10:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. The event takes place at Cremona Fiere. The exhibition center is located in Piazza Zelioli Lanzini 1. To get there you can use three means of transport:

  • train
  • plane

Cremona can easily be reached by car from the main Italian cities via the A-21 motorway. The railway station is on the Mantova-Milan line. The nearest airport is Milan Linate. From here you can reach the destination by train.
