Visit Italy by bike: the most beautiful itineraries in the North and in the Center

Are you ready to be  thrilled by the most beautiful cycling tours in Italy in the northern and central regions? Well, then let’s start with the first 6:

Veneto – the Serenissima Woods

Veneto is a territory that offers breathtaking views and to admire them while gently pedaling the bicycle paths created especially, is the best way don’t you think?

The first itinerary I propose starts from the Montebelluna railway station is about 37 km long and it runs on asphalt roads and for some stretches on dirt road.

But it’s not all … along the route you will be able to cross other delightful villages like Ciano, Biadene, Nervesa della Battaglia and Giavera del Montello and admire the remains of an ancient Abbey …

Liguria – Levante Riviera

We continue with the second route for amateur and professional cyclists moving to Liguria, another wonderful land and full of natural beauties.

Here I want to talk to you about a fantastic ring tour that leaves and arrives in Levanto, touching other beautiful places like Bonassola and Framura.

And that’s not all … along this cycling path, you can also go through a series of narrow nineteenth-century galleries, among which you glimpse the wonderful sea views.

  • Toscana – Monte Argentario

Going down to the center of the Peninsula, Italy by bicycle becomes  really fun with the incredible itinerary that from Capalbio leads to Monte Argentario.

If you’re ready to ride 76 kilometers on your bike, this is the path for you! You will find yourself crossing truly astonishing lagoon scenes that will be unforgettable.

  • Abruzzo – Abruzzo Coast

Abruzzo is a region that allows you to discover its thousand faces only by bike … along this stretch you will experience one of the greatest emotions on two wheels, I can assure you!

If you love the sea you absolutely must ride the bike path that coasts the Adriatic, winding along the Abruzzo coast through pine forests and waterways … the perfect ride for children and adults.

  • Lazio – Rome by bike

You have to know that there are several associations in Rome that organize real bike tours, whose duration varies from one hour to a full day.

Amongst the many, I recommend the route that starts from the Appia Antica and reaches the Aqueduct Park, about 21 km long, and allows you to discover some wonders such as:

  • Villa Torliona
  • Casina delle Civette
  • I quartieri Parioli e Trieste.

Do you like the idea of a cycle path along the ancient streets of the capital to discover its secrets? Certainly this is your perfect itinerary

• Umbria – Lake Trasimeno

What is the best way to get to know “the Green Heart of Italy” if  not on a bike ride? Umbria is a genuine land rich in traditions that will leave you a wonderful memory of it.

I suggest one of the many incredible cycling routes suitable for those who are not very fit: a ride around Lake Trasimeno.

A bike ride to South Italy: where to go

I would definitely go to Southern Italy, rich in enchanting places and bike paths that allow you to discover the hidden corners of the Boot.

• Apulia – Puglia aqueduct

Don’t blame me for what I am about to say … that of the Puglia Aqueduct is a challenging journey to be done in at least 7/9 days, but believe me, it really worth it!

I’m talking about a 500-km cycling tour that will allow you to discover the most hidden places in Southern Italy, showing you examples of industrial architecture.

• Sicily – from Acitrezza to Giardini Naxos

Here is a region that has so much to offer to bicycle lovers: Sicily! We can call it a real open-air museum where you can find culture, nature, traditions, history and much more …

Try riding along the road that connects Acitrezza to Giardini Naxos, you will be amazed at crossing beautiful seaside villages and many natural beauties.

  • Campania – the Briganti Park in Irpinia

Here is an ad hoc trail for those who love the thrill of adventure riding on their own mountain bike: the Briganti Park in Irpinia.

It is a 10 km long itinerary that reaches over a thousand meters of altitude and allows you to see all of beautiful Campania.

  • Calabria – the Sila and the Peak Road

And we conclude the proposals on cycling routes in Italy with one of the most beautiful ones in Calabria: the Sila and the peak road.

Just think, it starts at 1250 mt. of altitude to reach the summits of various mountains, crossing clearings, woods and beautiful landscapes … a truly unique panoramic trail!

This is just a small part of the country that you could see by bike, a lot more is to be discovered thanks to the itineraries proposed by the Italian Bicycle Association. Federazione Italiana della Bicicletta.
