What to visit near Ancona: the beautiful villages of Staffolo and Genga

Staffolo

To reach the first medieval village, Staffolo, you will find yourself on a road that crosses the well-known Verdicchio vineyards.

Maybe you didn’t know it, but this is where this excellent Italian wine is produced! About this, I suggest you take a few hours to visit the The Art of Winemaking Museum, where you can admire the ancient tools that were once used in the cellars of the town.

Let yourself be guided by the surreal atmosphere of this place, admiring the many buildings dating from the fifteenth to the seventeenth century and the old churches of the village. When you are tired and satisfied enough, enjoy a bit of well-deserved relax tasting the delicious cheeses and typical dishes, one better than the other!

To reach Staffolo by plane you land at the airport of Ancona-Falconara and by bus or taxi you can reach the village which is about 30 Km away. By train you have to get off at the train station of Jesi, while by car you take the A14 motorway and exit at Ancona Nord.

Genga

I am sure that, once you have visited Genga, you will fall in love with it and you will not be looking forward to going home! Imagine a majestic castle of mysterious origins and a group of caves that seem to have been designed by the hand of a brilliant architect, both surrounded by lush greenery.

And after you see the spa complex with miraculous effects you’ll agree with me. The village I’m talking about is surrounded by a park and by such natural wonders that it’s really hard to describe.

It can be considered one of the most interesting destinations in every aspect. Starting from the famous Grotte di Frasassi and reaching an oasis of real well-being, the Terme di San Vittore it is all a succession of incredible sights.

Other destinations near Ancona: Offagna, Corinaldo and Ostra

It is not over yet, because I have three other unique destinations to propose if you still don’t know what to visit near Ancona. I would like to tell you about:

  • Offagna
  • Corinaldo
  • Ostra.

The first village is particularly known for its fortress, which was erected directly by the Maritime Republic of Ancona to defend its territories.

Did you know that Offagna is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy? And it is very well preserved! I want to reveal to you that inside the famous fortress today there is a permanent exhibition of weapons, which you absolutely mustn’t miss.

At a short distance from Ancona stands Corinaldo, another diamond from the Marche that you must see.

Think of the thrill you can walk over its majestic walls that run along the village for 912 meters, coming almost to touch ancient battlements, gates and ramparts! But that’s not all, there’s another attraction that will certainly leave you amazed: the Piaggia. Have you ever heard of it? It is a staircase composed of a hundred steps and half way up is the Pozzo della Polenta (Polenta Well).

A few kilometers from Corinaldo you will find yourself in the last delightful village in the province of Ancona, Ostra, also characterized by fortified walls, towers and noble buildings. Here too you will have much to discover and I am not just referring to its historical monuments, but also to the great natural treasures that the village holds.

Do you still have doubts about what to visit near Ancona? This will be an unforgettable experience for you!
