The 82nd Venice International Film Festival opened on 27 August with the
hosted by Emanuela Fanelli, renewing the timeless charm of the event that unites
glamour, cultural reflection and the magic of the seventh art.
The protagonists on the red carpet
This year, the Lido red carpet welcomes leading figures from the film scene
world. Italy is represented by Paolo Sorrentino, who opens the festival with La Grazia,
joined by two performers of excellence such as Toni Servillo and Anna Ferzetti.
The international gaze is equally rich: the film Jay Kelly brings much-loved names into competition
such as George Clooney, Adam Sandler, Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. There is no lack of touch
visionary by Emma Stone, protagonist of Bugonia directed by *Yorgos Lanthimos, while Julia
Roberts conquers the scene together with Luca Guadagnino with After the Hunt.
The official competition is enriched with works by Park Chan-wook (No Other Choice) and Valérie
Donzelli (À pied d’œuvre), while the presence of Laura Poitras with Cover- stands out out of competition
up extension. On the other side of the Mediterranean comes Maryam Touzani, who with Calle Malaga
the path begun with Le Bleu du Caftan continues.
International juries
Leading the main competition is director Alexander Payne, supported by a varied jury and
authoritative which includes Stéphane Brizé, Maura Delpero, Cristian Mungiu, Mohammad
Rasoulof, Fernanda Torres and Zhao Tao. A set of voices capable of guaranteeing a balance between
authorial sensibilities, political gaze and aesthetic approach.
The meaning of this edition
The first overall look gives the image of a festival that continues to be a real one
compass of world cinema. Venice expertly alternates between great masters and emerging talents,
combining social reflection and entertainment. The presence of signatures such as Sorrentino and Guadagnino
it confirms the strength of cinematic Made in Italy, capable of communicating with Hollywood and with
more radical cinematography.
The 82nd Venice Film Festival is not just a glamorous event: it is a cultural crossroads.
Here cinema returns to question society, to talk about politics, visions of the future, desires and fears.
Venice, once again, doesn’t just show films: it builds bridges. Between past and present,
between Italy and the world, between the beauty of form and the strength of ideas.
