The Veneto region is rich in history, art and culture; a hub of international and world tourism thanks, above all, to the presence of the picturesque city of Venice, the region also boasts a unique gastronomic tradition.

Below is a selection of unmissable stops during a tour in the region of good food and good wine.

Venice, among the most beautiful cities in the world

Venice, synonymous with splendor, wealth and art, is among the most visited cities in the world and every year welcomes thousands of tourists.

In short, it is unthinkable to go to Veneto and not dedicate at least a whole day to the beautiful Venice.

The best times of the year to visit it are definitely spring and autumn when, thanks to the milder temperatures, you can walk through its alleys and appreciate all the beauty without tiring you. And, above all, you will avoid the mass tourism typical of the summer months.

If you only have one day, do not worry: it will be enough to visit the main attractions such as St Mark’s Square and the Basilica, Doge’s Palace, the Rialto Bridge and the Bridge of Sighs.

Between a monument and a square, treat yourself to an aperitif, after all, is the city (and the region) of the famous Spritz!

And if you want to have a complete experience in the city of Venice, do not forget to organize a gondola tour: it will be a truly unforgettable experience!

Murano and Burano, the Venetian islands

The islands are the part of Venice less chaotic but no less characteristic: the most visited and known are Murano and Burano, both linked to a double knot to its own artisan tradition.

In the case of Murano it is the art of blowing glass while Burano is famous for its lace making.

Both offer incredible experiences, for example in Murano you can watch live the creation of objects in blown glass by local artisans.

Murano is the largest and closest to the center, Burano is a little further away and small but full of charm thanks to the chromatic mix that characterizes it.

Verona, the city of love

After the tour of Venice and its islands, we proceed with another of the most visited cities every year: Verona.

This is what is considered the city of lovers, thanks to its link with the story of Romeo and Juliet.

Right here you can visit the house of Juliet, look out from the balcony and touch her statue in search of luck!

Do not miss the majestic arena of Verona, a Roman amphitheater perfectly preserved, now home to the great Italian opera.

Discovering the surroundings of Venice: Caorle, Chioggia and Bibione

In addition to the most famous Venice and Verona, the Veneto region has so much to offer.

Do not miss the opportunity to visit Caorle, a miniature Venice that boasts delightful views of small colorful houses and lush nature.

Smaller than Venice but also much older, historical testimony of the Roman Empire and the Serenissima Republic.

Another jewel not to be missed is Chioggia, also considered a small Venice, located on a group of islands divided by canals connected by bridges and bridges.

Probably, the name will not be new: Chioggia is in fact famous for having one of the most efficient ports in Italy and for its artistic liveliness that crosses its streets with the presence of painters, sculptors and watercolourists.

Finally, among the little treasures in the province of Venice, let’s not forget Bibione: here, to be the master, a verdant nature, the crystal clear sea and the quiet coast.

With eleven kilometers of promenade, Bibione offers beaches equipped with every comfort and a sea that, for more than 25 years, has been awarded with the Blue Flag for the quality of its waters.

Food and wine tradition of Veneto

If we had to list all the places in Veneto worth a visit we would never end but we do not forget that, this region, also boasts an important gastronomic tradition.

A quality cuisine, the Venetian one, established all over the world that includes typical delicacies: sardines in saor, eel and cod in Vicenza are the staples of fish recipes.

As for meat, among the most appreciated dishes of the regional tradition we find polenta with soppressa and Venetian liver.

You may not know it, but even in terms of desserts, in Veneto you are spoiled for choice: from tiramisu to pandoro, both born in this region, your palate will be satisfied by the regional culinary proposal.

What about the wine? Veneto is the homeland of Amarone della Valpolicella, one of the most internationally appreciated Italian wines, a DOCG that can only be produced in Valpolicella, in the province of Verona.

Other symbols of the region are prosecco and here it is the case to deepen: there is, in fact, a very precise distinction between the denominations Conegliano Valdobbiadene DOCG and Asolo Prosecco DOCG, recently called Prosecco DOC.

The first are produced exclusively in the hills of the province of Treviso and are considered the best of the category. The second, Prosecco DOC, has a larger production area that also includes areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia from which excellent wines are produced but less valuable than DOCG wines.

At this point, you just have to organize your cultural and food and wine tour in Veneto and fully enjoy all the beauty that the region can offer you.
