The Prosecco Hills of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene

In Veneto the wonderful places are certainly not lacking; those touched by the Way of the Hills of Prosecco of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, certainly deserves a special mention. It involves a magnificent portion of Veneto territory that extends from the town of Vidor to that of Vittorio Veneto, for a total of 51 kilometers dotted with hills covered with lush vineyards.

It is not by chance that it is here that the grapes with which one of the Italian products par excellence is obtained are cultivated and vinified: Prosecco DOC, loved and exported all over the world.

Thanks to its enchanting landscapes, the walk is an excellent destination for excursions and outdoor trips to discover wonderful places, vineyards and local wineries where, if you want, you can also taste a good glass of original Prosecco.

The route has been designed for the so-called “slow and sustainable tourism”, which allows visitors to admire and appreciate the history, nature, art and culture of the area through 40 thematic paths.

The entire route, which presents an average technical difficulty, is divided into 4 stages; let’s see in detail the first two:

Stage 1: from Vidor to Farra di Soligo

The starting point of the Cammino delle Colline del Prosecco is located in the Municipality of Vidor and includes 13 kilometers of route in the heart of the Marca Trevigiana, on a hill that rises near the river Piave surrounded by vineyards, farmhouses and historical evidence.

The village of Vidor is really impressive: it has an old town full of beautiful religious buildings, such as the Abbey of Santa Bona, the Church of the Holy Name of Mary and the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie of Colbertaldo.

Stage 2: from Farra di Soligo to Follina

The second part of the Cammino delle Colline del Prosecco continues towards Follina and includes a 13-kilometre route through woods and vineyards. This is the so-called “lookout path”, so called because in the past it coincided with the war observation point on the Piave front.

It is not by chance that it still preserves many testimonies of the First World War, fought on its own territory.

The most beautiful places to see in the Prosecco Hills

The Strada del Prosecco is the oldest wine route in Italy and involves 15 municipalities between Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, the production area of Prosecco Doc. Along with vineyards and wineries you can explore villages and castles and stroll through unspoilt nature.

The area is perfect both in spring and autumn, while in summer it is the ideal destination to stay in a farmhouse with swimming pool and enjoy the relaxation offered by the natural landscape. Here are the unmissable places of this route:

Cison di Valmarino

Among the most beautiful villages in Italy, Cison di Valmarino boasts a highly evocative old town, as well as a super romantic river bank and the interesting Museum of the Antique Radio. From above dominates Castelbrando, an ancient princely residence transformed into a luxury hotel, which can be accessed by cable car and then lost in its 50 hectares of park.

From the center of Cison di Valmarino, moreover, several naturalistic itineraries start, first of all the Via dei Mulini (or Via dell’Acqua): it consists in a simple path to cover, totally immersed in the nature and characterized by a mill, small waterfalls and bridges.

Castle of San Salvatore

The Castle of San Salvatore has existed for eight hundred years: it dates back, in fact, to the thirteenth century and played an important role in the Renaissance, when it hosted poets, artists and musicians of world renown.

Currently, the castle belongs to the Collalto family and is used as a venue for events and weddings. It can also be visited by tourists together with Cantine Collalto.

Castello dei Collalto

In Collalto, a small hamlet of Susegana, there is the castle of the same name, whose history is linked to a macabre legend: the protagonist is the damsel Bianca di Collalto who, apparently, she was walled up alive out of jealousy and whose ghost would still live inside the castle. Not to be missed!
