Merano Wine Festival

Back, with a 32nd edition full of news, the Merano winefestival: from 3 to 7 November 2023, the event born from an idea of The winehunter Hel-mu-th Kö-cher in 1992 will show a more glamorous, cosmopolitan and strongly attentive to sustainability. 

An excellent opportunity to visit the town of Trento that for centuries has been renowned for its spa and botanical gardens and for the fantastic panoramic walk, as well as for its food absolutely unmissable.

Also this year we will aim for excellence, elegance and inclusiveness among new selections and side events dedicated not only to the wine sector but also to the gastronomic one. Moreover, the 2023 edition will have a special focus on climate change issues, becoming a real climate change summit.  

In short, there will be five intense days, which will allow everyone present to surround themselves with the best labels and excellent gastronomic products coming not only from Italy, but from all over the world. There will also be meetings with exceptional guests and delicious tastings.  

News from Merano wine festival 2023 

The format of Merano winefestival will remain unchanged, so as to give continuity to what has been done in the last 32 years. Specifically:

  • Friday 3 November will be dedicated to “Na-tu-rae et Pu-rae”, Bio and Dynamica, with a wide focus on organic, organic and biodynamic wines;  
  • from Saturday 4 to Monday 6 November, however, the real protagonists will be the excellence selected by The winehunter, all exhibited at the Kurhaus in Merano;  
  • Tuesday, November 7, finally, will be registered Catwalk Champagne, to leave room for food, spirits and beer at the Gourmet Arena.

The event will conclude with Next Platinum, a moment dedicated to the promises of the future.

At the moment there are more than 600 participating companies, belonging to different categories of food, wine and champagne. Regarding wines, in particular, they will be divided between: 

  • iconic, that is, wines that have been a symbol of excellence for a given territory at national or international level for at least 25 years and, for this reason, have received the The winehunter Award Gold; 
  • unique, that is, wines defined as unique by type of vinification and/or aging, by unique vine or by extreme and/or heroic climatic conditions, always awarded the The winehunter Award Gold and on the market for at least 10 years; 
  • next platinum, that is those wines of high thickness and quality identified as “future promises” that have received at least an award The winehunter Award Gold.

The Summit “Breath and cry of the Earth” 

As mentioned, the 32nd edition of Merano winefestival will pay particular attention to the problems related to climate change with a talk dedicated to the title “Breath and cry of the Earth”. Industry experts will participate, invited precisely to propose new solutions to the consequences of climate change, which will try to promote the meeting as a spokesman for an emergency that, now, can no longer go unnoticed.

For those who decide to stay in Merano for all five days of the winefestival, the stay could be a useful opportunity to discover the city and immerse yourself in its historical and scenic beauty. Here are the best:  

The Thermal Baths of Merano 

The Terme di Merano are located a few steps from the historic center and offer pools, saunas and relaxation in a context sheltered from the chaotic and bustling rhythm of the city.

The botanical gardens  

The botanical gardens are located in Trauttmansdorff Castle, the former residence of Empress Sissi. With over 80 botanical environments with plants from around the world to admire, two viewing platforms, a beach reminiscent of the Caribbean and a large aviary, offer recreational moments based on music and fun.

The Tappeiner promenade 

The Tappeiner Walk, named after the doctor who designed it, has been around for 150 years. This is an opportunity to pull the plug and breathe clean air.

The porches 

The arcades of Merano extend for over 400 meters and allow you to shop in the most famous areas of South Tyrol. They are divided between the mountain porches and the water arcades, with interesting windows alternating with perfectly preserved historic houses.
