Great labels, new environmental sensitivities and bubbles that tell an ever-evolving classic
Christmas is the time when the choice of a bottle takes on a value that goes beyond taste. It is a symbolic, cultural, almost ritualistic gesture. For this reason, this year too, Italian Traditions has selected some of the best Champagnes to taste during the holidays, favoring labels capable of combining oenological excellence, territorial identity, and contemporary vision.
Champagne remains a timeless classic, but it would be a mistake to consider it immobile. On the contrary, it is one of the denominations that are most demonstrating the ability to reinvent themselves without betraying their soul, especially on the sustainability front.
A vineyard increasingly attentive to the environment
In recent years, the Champagne region has embarked on a structured path towards more responsible viticulture. Today, approximately 70% of vineyards have environmental certification, and thanks to agreements signed as early as 2014, the shared goal is to achieve certification that extends to the entire territory by 2030.
Areas under organic or biodynamic cultivation still represent a small percentage, but growth is constant and increasingly marked. Conversions are increasing rapidly, and even the most historic and renowned fashion houses are starting to seriously consider this approach, no longer as a niche choice but as a natural evolution of their production model.
It is proof that Champagne knows how to remain true to itself, while continuing to dialogue with the present: a symbol of elegance that does not fear change. The selection of Italian Traditions
In our choice for Christmas, we looked at the labels that best represent this double soul: deep roots and long gaze. Champagne capable of accompanying the entire meal, but also of being tasted slowly, like a story that reveals itself sip by sip.
Below is a selection of cuvées from the Montagne de Reims, among the most interesting to emerge from professional tastings and tastings.
Montagne de Reims – The selected labels
Crucifix Père & Fils – Epitre Act Millésimé 1er Cru Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2019
A pure Pinot Noir Champagne that impresses with energy and precision. The material is rich, but the sip remains vibrant, supported by refined wood management. Notes of ripe apple, pastry, and light roasts accompany an intense, lingering drink. A real revelation.
Eric Rodez – Blanc de Noirs
Full and engaging expression of Ambonnay’s Pinot Noir. The profile is broad, with references to red fruit, flavour and a well-calibrated gustatory tension. A gastronomic, profound Champagne that tells the story of the house’s stylistic maturity.
Jean-Philippe Trousset – Le Rosé
An elegant blend of the three Champenois grape varieties, it offers aromas of rose and small red fruits, supported by an incisive freshness. The sip is sharp, gluttonous, with a mineral closure that invites the second calyx.
Barnaut – Authentic Rosé Brut Grand Cru
Historic interpretation of Bouzy, with a prevalence of Pinot Noir. The bouquet recalls strawberries and raspberries, while on the palate more complex, toasted notes emerge, well balanced by a measured freshness. Harmonic, precise, reliable.
Paul Bara – Special Club Grand Cru 2016
A great classic that needs no introduction. Creamy, savoury, with citrus and well-integrated floral nuances. The freshness of the vintage supports a long and refined finish, with hints of bergamot and grapefruit.
Monmarthe – Millésime Enothèque 1er Cru Brut 2012
Aged for a long time on yeasts, it expresses complexity and depth. Pastry, red fruits and toasted notes anticipate a rich, creamy sip with a nice energy. A meditation Champagne, perfect for the most intimate moments of the holidays.
With this selection, Italian Traditions invites you to experience Champagne as an act of awareness, not just celebration. Because at Christmas, more than ever, every toast tells a choice.
