Autumn villages, discovering the most charming villages in Italy

When autumn arrives, it brings a long series of colors and unmistakable sensations: between the brown of the leaves, the soft grey of the clouds and the crisp air, the season takes shape and proves to be the ideal moment to make an outing outside, maybe on the weekend, discovering wonderful villages, typical dishes and unspoilt places.

Here are 7 villages in Italy to choose as a destination for an escape from the chaos of the city during autumn:

Cherasco, Cuneo

Known for their food and wine heritage, the Langhe are always an excellent choice to spend a few days immersed in nature. Among the villages of the place there is Cherasco, in the province of Cuneo, which stands out from the others for its urban structure and for the gastronomic proposal, rich in typical products such as hazelnuts and snails.

Here, between a restaurant and another, even when it rains there is much to see: the Romanesque churches of San Martino and San Pietro, Palazzo Salmatoris and the Museum of Magic, able to fascinate young and old. And for those who want to buy a souvenir, we recommend the Baci di Cherasco, dark chocolate confetti and toasted hazelnuts of the Langhe.

Gressoney Saint Jean, Aosta

On the valley of the Lys stands the Monte Rosa, imposing and majestic, giving a panorama to say nothing breathtaking. Immersed in this landscape is Gressoney, where it is pleasant just to walk through the streets of its town, then stop in the squares and admire the buildings of the sixteenth-eighteenth century.

The things not to be missed in Gressoney are undoubtedly the toma, to be accompanied by some slices of goat violin, and the d’Socka, warm and comfortable cloth slippers that prove to be a real salvation during the colder season.

Caderzone Terme, Trento

You pass in Trentino, among meadows, woods, mountains and glaciers that are the backdrop to Caderzone Terme. Its historic centre is charming, with cobbled streets and squares decorated with precious stone fountains.

The village is renowned for its wellness center, where the protagonist is the water of the Fountain S. Antonio used for charity and to spend a few hours relaxing between steam baths and hydromassages. At the same time, it is recommended to taste milk and cheese such as Spressa, Vacarsa and Razza Rendena and make a trip to the Museum of the Malga.

Bassiano, Latina

Those who want to visit a typical medieval village must definitely choose Bassiano, in the province of Latina. Its historic center is itself a testimony of the glorious past, with castle walls characterized by 9 towers and 3 gates, and crossing the narrow stone alleys you can admire limestone houses and S. Erasmus square, where stands the parish church dedicated to the patron saint of the city.

Before leaving Bassiano you must visit the Museum of Scriptures “Aldo Manuzio” and taste the ham, typical local product.

Frontino, Pesaro-Urbino

The area of Montefeltro becomes simply magical in autumn, as its hilly landscapes and forests are tinged with the typical colors of the season. Here you will find Frotino, a small village in the province of Pesaro-Urbino, belonging to the Natural Park of Sasso Simone and Simoncello.

Its streets are perfect for a quiet walk, discovering the civic tower and the Torrione, to the tables of a restaurant where you can taste any dish based on the local product par excellence: black truffle. And after eating, we recommend a visit to the Assetto Museum, the Franciscan convent of Montefiorentino and the Bread Museum.

Civitella Alfedana, Aquila

A last village, very small, to visit in autumn is definitely Civitella Alfedana. It is the smallest town in the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, has a very ancient history and is rich in palaces dating back to the seventeenth and eighteenth century.

Those who come here can not help but get in touch with nature, hiking and cycling, and culture, visiting the various museums that tell the traditions of the area. Of course, the kitchen also wants its share: that of Civitella Alfedana is born in the mountains and combines old local recipes with typical products, proposing homemade egg pasta, guitar to sheep, pappardelle to wild boar and grilled mixed roast.

Autumn is just around the corner. Now you just have to choose one or more villages listed as destinations of the next trips in the name of relaxation and discovery, in the company of characteristic colors and local scents that make every experience simply unique.
