What’s more satisfying than sipping a good glass of wine, slowly savoring its taste and being delighted by its fragrance?
As I am a great lover of wines, I could not help but mention one of the most excellent qualities produced in Veneto: Gambellara.
If you have already had the opportunity to try it, you will certainly know that I am talking about one of the best known and renowned Italian wines, not only of the region in which it is produced, but of the whole Bel Paese.
Are you curious to know its story? Then I will start by telling you that this excellent wine takes its name from an area located on the border between Vicenza and Verona.
You will also like to know that it is an area of volcanic origin, its soils are particularly favorable to vine cultivation.
But that’s not all, in this place the soil has a natural fertility and a high mineral content, which strongly contribute to giving the wine extraordinary notes.
In the splendid vineyards of Gambellara, the undisputed star is the Garganega grape from which high quality white and raisin wines are produced.
Among these are the two versions of the Recioto, and the Vin Santo.
Some History about Gambellara
Let’s find out something more about the Venetian area so famous all over the world for its wine production.
I’m talking about a town that has over three thousand inhabitants and is located in the province of Vicenza, where other well-known Venetian wines are also produced, which now have a place in many renowned restaurants.
The origin of its name is not yet clear, but it is known that in the past it belonged to the bishops of Vicenza together with Sorio and that it possessed a very ancient castle, then completely destroyed in 1243.
In the early ‘300 the town was taken by the Veronese and became a cause of argument with the Vicentini, who claimed possession that they finally obtained before the end of the century.
If you should decide to visit it, do not miss a pleasant stop in one of the many wineries in its territory and, above all, a taste of the prestigious Recioto.
Very interesting is also the parish church built between 1816 and 1822, which houses an ancient image of the Rosary and some paintings by Giovanni Busato dating back to 1806-86.
How to reach Gambellara
By car, take the A4 motorway to the Montebello Vicentino exit and Gambellara direction. By train, you can reach the station of Vicenza and then you can reach the destination by direct bus service.

A 4 year long work, has led to the division of the Gambellara Doc wine production area into eight sub-areas, each of which is characterized by soil and climate conditions and, therefore, by different end products.
