Graphics Museum

In short, the exhibition venue is inside Palazzo Lanfranchi in Pisa and presents one of the most important public collections concerning contemporary graphics. In this exhibition an artistic panorama of the highest level that highlights the period of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries is shown to students, scholars and enthusiasts.

Among the permanent collections housed inside are those of the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe of the University of Pisa. This is a collection of graphics from 1957 initiated by Carlo Ludovico Ragghianti.

As for the temporary exhibitions, the one being presently held, curated by Massimo Melotti, focuses on the figure of Roman Opalka, and the relationship the artist has tried to establish and define between time and his works.

The exhibition center

Here is another thing: the building is located in Via Lungarno Galilei 9, in Pisa, and rises from a nucleus of houses, towers and buildings erected between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. It takes its name from the family that has inhabited it since 1539. The renovation was carried out between 1976 and 1980 on a project by the architect Massimo Carmassi. This work has allowed the rediscovery and enhancement of the various construction phases through a philological restoration. Starting in 2007, the Museo della Grafica, one of the most interesting Italian museums, was inaugurated. Here you can find the answer to the question about what to visit in Italy and above all what to see in Pisa.

Entry times and fees

Entry times are every day from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The entry fee is 3 euros for the whole ticket and 3 for reduced. it is free for under 14, over 65, students, teachers, carers and tour guides. It can be purchased directly at the entrance to the museum.

How to reach it and where to stay

Consider this: to reach the city of Pisa it is possible to use three different means of transport. They are

  • car
  • train
  • plane.

By car, take the Genova-Livorno A12 motorway and the Florence-Pisa-Livorno highway. By train it is easy to reach as it is on the Rome-La Spezia railway line. The city airport is the Galileo Galilei which is only 5 minutes by bus from the city.

For the overnight stay I suggest you book at the Bonanno hotel located in the area near the famous city tower. The average cost is around 55 euros per room. As an alternative I suggest the B & B Villa Teresa always in the center. The price of accomodation is 80 euros per room.
