Transmitting the value of traditions is one of the best things a parent can do with their children, using activities that can create memories, sharing and truly unique moments.
The olives harvest is perfect in this sense: an activity that will make both adults and children appreciate the pleasure of returning to the origins, being in contact with nature and having fun with simplicity.
We discover the best places to pick olives with children in Italy.

Open Mills and olive picking with children
Open Mills in Umbria is not only an opportunity to discover the history and charm of the medieval villages of the region, to taste the taste of extra virgin olive oil DOP or to discover other specialties typical of the area but it is also an opportunity to live a unique experience with your family!
In fact, there are many mills in the region that have included activities dedicated to families and children (even the youngest!). For example, at the Berti Mill in Olmo di Perugia, every Sunday it will be possible to participate in the activities of the educational farm and collect olives with the youngest.
The activities planned for this itinerant fair are really many and you can consult the complete calendar by visiting the official page dedicated to the event.
Other events dedicated to the olive harvest in Italy
Frantoi Aperti is certainly among the most famous initiatives on the theme of “olive harvesting” but it is certainly not the only one.
Just move in Tuscany to have access to other themed initiatives. Tuscany, in fact, is the most productive region for family-oriented projects and activities.
For example, from 27 October to 3 November at the Oasi Turistica Baugiano (Prato) will be organized days dedicated to the harvest of olives and chestnuts, accompanied by visits to the farm, lunch and entertainment.
From Prato we move to Fiesole (a few kilometers from Florence) where, on Sundays 27 October, 3 and 17 November, at the Fattoria di Maiano it will be possible to take part in both the olive harvest and guided tours of the mill. This particular structure also offers the possibility of staying on site, to give the whole family a weekend in the name of nature.
Also in Tuscany, at the Podere dei Nonni Farm in Scansano, families staying in the structure will be able to participate, together with their children, in all stages of oil production: from the harvesting of olives to the preparation of bottles full of labels made together.
From Tuscany we walk the boot down to get to Campania, precisely in Sant’Angelo all’Esca, in the province of Avellino where, at the Tenuta Cavalier Pepe you can spend a whole day with family: breakfast, walk among olive trees, lunch (including also menu dedicated to children), various workshops and surprise tastings.
