Wine and wineyards of Sicily

The region – island of Sicilia has mild weather and temperature and a landscape variety that goes from mountains, to hills and sea. All of this fosters a lot the wine-growing and producing activity. The main areas for vine cultivation and wine production are three: on the west side the one of Trapani, where you can find Marsala, on the north-east side the one of Etna and on the south side the one of Ragusa.
Also in this region viticulture has a long tradition that ranges among populations and tastes: from Greeks to Normans, to Spanish and Arabian people and continues to be improved nowadays by taking advantage from the island resources.

Main vine varieties: Alicante or Grénache, Ansonica or Inzolia, Carricante, Corinto nero, Damaschino, Frappato, Grecanico dorato, Grillo, Malvasia di Lipari, Minnella bianca, Moscato bianco, Moscato d’Alessandria o Zibibbo, Nerello cappuccio, Nerello mascalese, Nocera, Perricone.

Main red wines: Alicante o Grénache, Corinto nero, Frappato, Nerello cappuccio, Nero d’Avola, Nocera, Sicilia rosso Cygnus Regaleali, Sicilia rosso La Segreta, Etna rosso, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Sicilia Rosso Passomaggio, Syrah, Sicilia rosso Zisola, Salina rosso, Terre siciliane Merlot Punto 5, Sicilia Cabernet Sauvignon, vino frizzante rosso Taìra, Sicilia rosso Tancredi, Faro, Contea Sclafani Rosso del Conte, Sicilia rosso Hierà, Sicilia Rosso del Soprano, Sciacca.

Min white wines: Albanello, Ansonica o Inzolia, Carricante, Catarratto bianco comune, Damaschino, Zibibbo, Sicilia bianco la Segreta, Terre siciliane Leone d’Almerita Regaleali, Sicilia bianco Regaleali, Terre siciliane bouquet bianco, Terre siciliane Sauvignon blanc Sinestesìa, Grillo, Terre siciliane Zibibbo Rajàh, Sicilia bianco sole e vento, Etna bianco, Sicilia Chardonnay, Contea Sclafani nozze d’oro Regaleali, Sicilia Fiano cometa, Sicilia Catarrotto Lucido, Terre siciliane Traminer, Sicilia bianco Alastro, Sciacca.

Main rosé: Terre siciliane Regaleali le rose, Sciacca.

Main sparkling: Moscato bianco, Spumante rosso extra dry, Spumante rosé extra dry, Spumante brüt rosé metodo classico, Spumante extra dry bianco Grillo, Spumante brüt bianco, Contea Sclafani spumante brüt.

Main sweet wines: Malvasia delle Lipari passito, Moscato bianco, Moscato d’Alessandria o Zibibbo, Passito di Pantelleria, Sicilia passito diamante, Vecchio Samperi ventennale, Marsala superiore riserva 10 anni, Marsala superiore oro vigna la Miccia, Passito di Noto, Salina Malvasia Capofaro, Malvasia delle Lipari passito.
