Now in its XXIV edition, from August 4 to 26, returns the Notte della Taranta 2021. The popular festival set in Salento returns with an edition featuring surprises that unite the modern and the tradition, with Madame and Melozzi as concert masters.
This year too, the Apulia region is ready to hold the traditional yearly festival that celebrates music and Salento: the Notte della Taranta 2021. The famous event started on August 4 will go on until August 26, moving around Salento from Corigliano d’Otranto, passing through – among many others – Alberobello, Taranto, Lecce, Ugento to then finish off with the traditional big concert in Melpignano on August 28.
Started in 1998 and now in its 24th edition, the Notte della Taranta is a travelling festival that has as its focus rediscovering and highlighting the value of the music of Salento in its every form through different musical languages. It involves everything from jazz to classical musica, with the support of local and international artists.
A nice way to couple the inevitable tourism that attracts thousands of tourists from the rest of the peninsula – and beyond! – with some music. With the Notte della Taranta, Salento becomes a true paradise for music and beach lovers. A destination that has everything and which we think is perfect to enjoy an unforgettable summer.
The stages, the concert masters and the popular orchestra: things to know about the Notte della Taranta 2021
Started off in Corigliano d’Otranto on August 4, after 22 locations and evenings dedicated to music traditions, the festival ends with the typical concert held in Melpignano, an event coveted by amateurs and professionals alike. The concert features the concert masters, who offer a reinterpretation of local music together with a group of musicians from Salento.
Over the years, the role of the concert master has been taken on by top class artists, such as Ludovico Einaudi (in 2010 and 2011), Phil Manzanera (2015) and Fabio Mastrangelo (2019). The Notte della Taranta 2021 will have as concert masters the composer Enrico Melozzi and the songwriter Madame.
Along with the role of concert master, another important role in the Notte della Taranta is the popular orchestra. born in 2004, the Popular Orchestra has hosted several artists both Italian and international, from Ligabue to Salento’s own Giuliano Sangiorgi, from Master Franco Battiato to Boomdabash.
