Navigli, the vintage markets of Milan

Navigli, vintage markets

The Navigli are a true symbol of Milan, as well as being one of the most fascinating attractions of the Lombard capital, which boasts among other things a tradition of “city of water”, and a pole of historical and cultural attraction, but also tourist and popular, nightlife included.

Between the Darsena and the nearby streets, then, there are also three well-known markets that, for years, represent a busy appointment for the Milanese – but not only – who do not fail to light the Ticinese district with colors, sounds and extraordinary animation. This periodically renews the possibility of embarking on exploration to discover at times incredible shopping opportunities including vintage objects, vintage clothing and furniture, rare records and curiosities.

The Fair of Sinigaglia

The so-called Fiera di Sinigaglia is a flea market that represents a piece of history of Milan. On a weekly basis – held every Saturday on the edge of the Darsena – the fair is also the oldest Milanese market, dating back to its origins in the 19th century, when it was held near the bastions between Porta Ticinese and Porta Genova. It owes its name to the custom, in vogue in the cities of Lombardy and Veneto, to call “Fairs of Senigaglia” the markets where it was possible to sell anything, and especially used and ancient objects, where then sell their belongings to earn something.

At the Sinigaglia Fair, which has also become the meeting place of the “alternative” Milanese, you can find objects of all kinds: from vintage clothing to Cds and vinyl records, from electronics to comics, from bags to housewares and crafts, from shoes to household items, from military tops to bicycles.

An unmissable appointment for those who, in addition to concluding some interesting deals, want to live an aspect of life in Milan full of charm.

The Antiques Market

On the last Sunday of each month the appointment with the Antiques Market is renewed, along the first stretch of the Naviglio Grande, starting from Viale Gorizia and Alzaia up to the bridge of via Valenza. Two kilometres along which up to 400 selected antique exhibitors display quality vintage furniture and objects. The market is an extraordinary opportunity to go in search of furniture and furnishings, collectibles and modern objects, art pieces, watches, jewelry, prints and books, games and dolls, comics and radio. In addition, in the side streets Via Corsico and Via Paoli, you can find vintage objects and excellent opportunities for furniture or clothing at lower prices. During the fair, shops, clubs and ateliers remain open, making the Navigli area even more lively and attractive.

The Market of Porta Genova

In via Valenza, every Sunday of the month, the Mercatino di Porta Genova is held, where it is the master of used objects of all kinds, especially those dedicated to the home. This flea market, more recently established, has become an unmissable event for Milanese but also for tourists.

In this space, anyone who wants can set up a banquet to display and sell small objects, furnishings, old memorabilia, used clothes or consumer electronics, all at very low prices. It is for this reason that the appointment has become for many the occasion to conclude sometimes excellent business, as well as to find objects and items often unthinkable, such as post-war memorabilia or decorated crystal glasses, trekking equipment and old toys, : try to believe.
