Maneskin, Italian rock band
Damiano David, vocals – Thomas Raggi, guitar – Victoria De Angelis, bass – Ethan Torchio, drums, compose Måneskin, rock band born in the city of Rome in 2016.
The band formed after the first collaborations – dating back to 2015 – between Damiano David, the singer and Victoria De Angelis, the bassist, joined by Thomas Raggi and Ethan Torchio, choosing the name Måneskin, which in Danish means “moonlight”. The group participated, winning, at the Pulse High School Band Contest, then held its first official concert at the Meeting of independent labels of Faenza.
The formation, composed by very young musicians, then had the opportunity to rise on the limelight of the Italian music scene, immediately reaching a great popularity in 2017, thanks to the participation in the X Factor broadcast. Måneskin finished second at the end of the well-known television talent show, now in its eleventh edition. They then signed a contract with Sony Music and released the Ep Chosen, double platinum record.
In 2018, the band released its first album, Il ballo della vita, with the single Torna a casa that sanctioned its success and fame in our country. The single Morirò da re, sung in Italian, was triple platinum. Later, the Måneskin went on a long tour which was sold out on each date. The release of their second album, Teatro d’ira – Vol. 1, was marked by the success of the single Zitti e buoni, with which Måneskin earned in 2021 the victory at the 71 Festival of Sanremo. Sanremo. Shortly after this success, the band then triumphed at 65 º Eurovision Song Contest 2021, the first Italians to win the award since 1964, the year in which he won Gigliola Cinquetti, making a further leap that has imposed them on the international scene and in numerous European music sales charts.
In the summer of 2021, the band topped the Spotify World Record, the digital music sharing platform, thanks to their cover of Beggin’, a Four Season song, that had already been placed in Chosen by warming immediately after the Billboard ranking up to the sixteenth position. The band’s fame has continued to grow internationally, proof of which is the fact that their single I wanna Be Your Slave saw the participation of the legendary punk icon Iggy Pop, author of the song. The last success in order of time, however, is the single Mamma mia. And it’s recent history the appearance and performance of Måneskin at the American television show Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where it was announced the participation of the Italian quartet at the next concert of the Rolling Stones on November 6, 2021, which will be opened by the Måneskin.
