Fontanelle Agritourism, in the heart of the Salento area

Known also as Salento peninsula, the Salento coincides with the southern part of Puglia, between the Ionian Sea on the west and the Adriatic Sea on the east. Here, specifically in the province of Lecce, a few kilometers from the north coast of Otranto and a short walk from the famous Bay of the Turks, the Fontanelle Agritourism, a place with rich history that has its roots in the mid of the twentieth century, when Otranto changed its shape and the area of Alimini, on north of the countryside and the sea, it was reclaimed, giving farmers a farmhouse.

Fontanelle was a farm when the father of Marina, the current owner, decided to make their own that house and the farm and to follow the hard road of agriculture, cultivating with love, for long thirty years, a land of tradition and sacrifice, producing wheat, vegetables, fruit and vegetables and specializing in the cultivation of the vine and the barbatella. Today the farm is owned by Marina who, making use of the precious help of her mother Maddalena and sister Silvia, in 2001 took over the reins, accepting with enthusiasm the legacy of his father and choosing to reshape and give color to his project.

Composed of 20 hectares of land and 1200 olive trees, the Agricola Fontanelle produces every year cereals and legumes, extra virgin olive oil, fruits, vegetables and tomato sauce. Registered in the CIA (Italian Farmers Confederation), in AGIA (Association of Young Agriculture Entrepreneurs) and the national association “Women in the field”, the company follows the principles of organic and biodynamic agriculture and is engaged in the recovery of vegetable varieties lost, such as the wheat Senatore Cappelli, an ancient corn variety that Agricola Fontanelle employs in flour production with which produces  delicious biscuits, bagels, pasta and friselle of high quality.

For three years, the farm has expanded the offer by proposing hospitality in 9 double rooms with bathroom and equipped with small private courtyard overlooking a large garden with a panoramic view on the company, obtained from the renovation of the rooms of the house. All decorated and furnished differently, equipped with all the necessities, the rooms are inspired by the protagonists of the 1480 Turkish conquest of Otranto, the characters of the famous novel L’ora di tutti, whose atmosphere reproduces.

Fontanelle Agrituorism also has a campground that offers to people with camper or caravan all the necessary comodities in a completely natural environment: an oasis of relax in the Salento halfway between the Alimini lakes, landmark botanical and wildlife, and the Caribbean and pristine sands of Baia dei Turchi.
