Caserta, the Palace of Wonders

The Palace of Caserta, included in the UNESCO list of world heritage sites in 1997, is a magical place, enchanting and steeped in history, to visit at least once in your life.

The royal residence, historically belonging to the Bourbon of the Two Sicilies, saw the light in 1845 although the works for its construction began almost a hundred years earlier when, in 1752, the first stone was laid on a project by Luigi Vanvitelli, Who was inspired by the Palace of Versailles.

Today the Reggia di Caserta is one of the Italian state museums that has been granted special autonomy by the Ministry of Culture and that, every year, attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors: in 2023 alone, there were more than a million, from all over Italy and the world.

Between history, art and fashion: Caserta presents The Palace of Wonders

The Reggia di Caserta is preparing for a kind of journey in time to relive the splendour of the Bourbon period by hosting dances, concerts in vintage costumes and parades for the project “The palace of wonders”.

The event, strongly wanted and organized by the provincial Tourist Board, has the objective of promoting this jewel of architecture both in Italy and abroad.

In fact, although every year the Reggia di Caserta welcomes people from all over the world, in percentage there are many more Italian visitors than foreigners because, abroad, it is not yet very well known (or, at least, it is not as much as it should be).

In this sense, the first time that the Palace had visibility at an international level was during the filming of the first chapter of the second trilogy of Star Wars, The Phantom Menace, for which the interiors of the building were granted for some scenes: was certainly an intelligent choice to give visibility to the great architectural work of Caserta and it should be recognized for having attracted the interest of tourists from various countries in Europe and the world.

However, there is a need to give greater resonance to the Reggia di Caserta, with initiatives aimed at ensuring that it can be celebrated in all its magnificence and appreciated not only in Italy.
