Panerai – the time of sustainable luxury

Between history, innovation and Made in Italy

Founded in Florence in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai, the house has been able to combine Italian craftsmanship with technological innovation, becoming an icon of Made in Italy in the luxury watchmaking sector. Originally founded as a watch shop and workshop, it was also the first watchmaking school in Florence, immediately consolidating a deep bond with tradition and craft training.

A legacy linked to the Navy

The history of Panerai is closely intertwined with that of the Italian Navy. For decades, the company has been supplying precision instruments and watches to Navy divers, developing materials and patents to ensure excellent performance in extreme conditions. Legendary models such as the Radiomir and the Luminor, together with the characteristic crown protection device, were born in this context, becoming symbols of reliability and distinctive design.

Innovation and sustainability

Today, it continues to stand out not only for the excellence of its products, but also for a strong commitment to sustainability. The maison has structured its sustainable initiatives around five fundamental pillars:

Processes: optimisation of internal operations to reduce environmental impact.

Products: development of watches with sustainable materials and innovative designs.

People: development of human capital through training and inclusion.

Performance in real estate: implementation of eco-efficient buildings and production spaces.

Partnerships: partnerships with suppliers and organisations to promote responsible practices.

A concrete example of this commitment is the Submersible eLAB-ID TM, a concept watch made from 98.6% recycled materials, representing a significant step towards more environmentally friendly practices in the watchmaking industry. Panerai has openly shared information on the components used, promoting a culture of transparency and collaboration for a more sustainable industry.

Global presence and celebration of Made in Italy

Panerai’s international reputation is evidenced by its presence in key cities of world luxury. On 25 January 2024, the London boutique at 30 New Bond Street hosted an exclusive event to celebrate Italian luxury watchmaking. The event, strongly wanted by the Consul General of Italy in London, Domenico Bellantone, stressed the importance of consolidating the link between Italian institutions and brands of excellence abroad. During the evening, iconic models and unique pieces were exhibited, such as the Luminor Lab-ID and the Minute Repeater, a unique specimen that has attracted the interest of international collectors.

Although the technological production is concentrated in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, Panerai maintains its strong Italian roots. The Milan office is responsible for marketing strategies, while the historic store in Piazza San Giovanni in Florence, home of the brand, has once again become a reference point for fans, Celebrating the rich heritage and craftsmanship that have made Panerai a symbol of Italian luxury in the world.
