The village of Furore

Where is the village Furore? We are in the province of Salerno and among the beauty of the Amalfi Coast rises Furore, a small village set in a breathtaking setting.

The village was founded by the ancient Romans as an unassailable fort because of its particular shape (still visible today).

The absence of cultivated areas and the discovery of the first cadastral traces in the mid-eighteenth century have suggested the use of the village as an ancient place of exile.

Furore is not a very populated village to this day, indeed it is also known as «the country that there is», but it is one of the unmissable destinations for those visiting the Amalfi coast.

On the sea side there are the beach and the walls of the fjord while on the side of the village there is a village divided into hamlets, interspersed with terraces and composed of houses scattered along the slopes.

The fjord of Furore

From the seaside village comes to life a steep staircase that leads to the fjord of Furore, a real glimpse of Norway in the Mediterranean created by the rift of the Lattari Mountains.

The small inlet, which is the background of the village of Furore, was formed thanks to the action of the stream Schiato (become dry) at the end of his descent from Agerola.

To the eye opens a reserve characterized by the cliffs overlooking the sea, the vegetation that climbs along the walls of the fjord and the bridge thirty meters high that crosses the gorge (and that is the location of the World Championship of diving competitions).

The fjord of Furore is an interesting area from a naturalistic and historical point of view, so much so that it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

The area is characterized by very different vegetation, such as thermophilic plants, woods, deciduous trees and riparian forests.
