How is Milan Design Week organized
The name Milano Design Week refers to both the Salone Internazionale del Mobile, both the Fuorisalone: the first is a fair that takes place in Rho that from Monday to Friday is reserved exclusively for professionals and journalists while Saturday and Sunday also opens to the public.
Born in 1961 as an exhibition of Italian furniture, this year the Salone del Mobile will be set up on one floor (and not two, like the other years) but planned at least a whole day to explore it far and wide.
The Fuorisalone, officially established in 1991, instead indicates all the collateral events and art installations, which are held in Milan in the same week of the Salone del Mobile. It is organized in different districts both in the center and in former industrial areas. If the Brera Design District is one of the most central and hosts brands such as Versace and Natuzzi, the Fuorisalone also invades the Tortona area, the Cinque Vie district or one of the oldest parts of Milan, Porta Romana, Porta Venezia and the former suburbs of Calvairate and Barona.
During the development of the Fuorisalone, entire areas dedicated to temporary exhibitions that come to life during the design week were created: These are often abandoned industrial areas that companies rent for that period with the intention of populating the fair also works and artistic performances.
In this way, in addition to the most important and characteristic districts, there are also temporary events organized in other parts of the city that help create a unique itinerary of design and art that develops through the various districts of Milan.
Although it is the most famous and recognized in the world, the Milan Design Week is certainly not the only one: over the years they have developed a bit ‘everywhere so that, In 2017, a project called World Design Weeks was born that consists of a virtual network that connects the forty design weeks in the world with the aim of sharing knowledge and ideas about the project and with the aim of educating the public to the culture of design.

Milan design week as an opportunity to discover ancient Milan
The event dedicated to design is also an important opportunity to discover the oldest part of Milan, made of the sumptuous historic buildings of the city.
