From the seaside village comes to life a steep staircase that leads to the fjord of Furore, a real glimpse of Norway in the Mediterranean created by the rift of the Lattari Mountains.
The small inlet, which is the background of the village of Furore, was formed thanks to the action of the stream Schiato (become dry) at the end of his descent from Agerola.
To the eye opens a reserve characterized by the cliffs overlooking the sea, the vegetation that climbs along the walls of the fjord and the bridge thirty meters high that crosses the gorge (and that is the location of the World Championship of diving competitions).
The fjord of Furore is an interesting area from a naturalistic and historical point of view, so much so that it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
The area is characterized by very different vegetation, such as thermophilic plants, woods, deciduous trees and riparian forests.
What to see in Furore
Furore and its fjord represent a characteristic corner that is worth visiting if you travel along the Amalfi coast.
The seaside village is divided into districts and has houses scattered along the slopes, almost hidden from the sight of visitors.
Who arrives in Furore village is immediately fascinated by the murals drawn by the artists who came to the exhibition «Walls in search of author» depicting the legends, history and local life.
Villa della Storta houses a museum dedicated to Anna Magnani and Roberto Rossellini, who continued their artistic association by shooting some scenes of the film Love in this particular location.
The village also houses the Ecomuseum of the Fiordo where you can learn about some ancient structures, two paper mills, two mills, the area in which it lay and the place where the stone was worked.
In Furore you can also visit some churches where paintings and works of great historical value are kept: the church of San Michele Arcangelo, the church of Sant’Elia and the church of San Giacomo.
Before reaching the fjord, you can visit the Pellerina Garden and enjoy the view of the park located overlooking the sea.
The fjord is a place surrounded by unspoilt nature that can be visited through various paths while the 25-metre pebble beach can be reached on foot along the stone staircase or by sea arriving by boat.
How to get to Furore
The fjord of Furore is an extraordinary place that can be easily reached by car, train or bus or by sea.
How to visit the fjord of Furore? You can reach it by car starting from Salerno (first the highway 163 and after the highway 366 until you get to the bridge) or from Naples (highway A3, highway 145 with exit Castellammare di Stabia and state road 366 for Agerola to the fjord).
You can get around by public transport from Naples station: train to Salerno, direct bus to Amalfi and bus to Positano and Sorrento to visit the fjord and bus to Agerola to visit the village. From Salerno, however, you have to take the train towards Amalfi and the bus towards Agerola.
Those who travel along the Amalfi coast can approach the fjord of Furore with a boat, a dinghy or a water scooter.
