Basilicata

Viticulture and wine production in the region of Basilicata have a thousand-year old tradition, dated in the pre-roman age of Enotri and Lucanians. Today history, tradition and innovation come together to make (few) best quality wines.

Wines are not a lot, but concentrate all the features of the region vine varieties. The main production areas are the one near mount Vulture, the one of Matera and the high part of Val d’Agri. The first is in the province of Potenza and offers a red wine, full bodied, high proof and tannic. The second is in the province of Potenza too and in it are used international vine varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malvasia. In the third are protagonists Bianco, Greco, Moro and a sparkling ri-fermented in bottle. Vine varieties in this area are Aglianico, Caberbet Sauvignon, Greco, white Malvasia of Basilicata, Sangiovese and tuscan Trebbiano.
