Finale Ligure, The pearl of the Riviera

One of the most active and frequently visited resorts of the Ligurian Riviera, Finale Ligure is a city where history has left many testimonies: artistic and cultural that from prehistoric times, passing through the Middle Ages, have arrived to our days.

The atmosphere combined with the predominantly mild climate makes it one of the most beautiful pearls of the Riviera area, the ideal place to immerge yourself into a paradise of art, culture, sport and nature. Finale ligure consists of three fractions which formerly constituted three different locations: Finalmaria, which stands on the sea, Finalpia, still on the coast but with older facilities and, at last but not least, the sweet Finalborgo (among the most beautiful hamlets in Italy). Although beaches, bright and colorful, attract the greatest number of tourists, the real heart of the town is indeed the core of Finalborgo which, framed by the fifteenth-century walls and dominated by the imposing castles of Govone and St. John, enchants the visitor with its atmosphere of yesteryear.

The area of Finale is also proposed as a favorite destination for good cuisine and good wine lovers. Many are restaurants, trattorias, inns, taverns, wineries on the coast and inland where to discover specialties of gastronomy and of typical wines of Finale Ligure, either with complete meals than with delicious tastings in family-run trattorias, with simplicity and cordiality, or in high level restaurants.

The first place where we’re taking you today is located in one of the narrow streets of Finalborgo, just a few steps away from the central square Garibaldi. Ai Cuattru Canti, small family-run inn where the atmosphere is intimate and relaxing, offers a menu with an interesting choice of starters, land and sea main courses, as well as delicious desserts, all strictly homemade.

They range from tagliolini with pesto chestnut dough to traditional main courses like Ligurian rabbit and stockfish burrida. If you want to delight your palate with the typical softness of the region’s stuffed focaccia, and not only, our advice is to make a stop at Ristorante Bastian Contrario.

But if you want the fresh flavors of the sea, stop at Ristorante Acquaviva, located on Finale’s promenade, furnished with original design specializing in high-quality cuisine which exalts the flavors of the excellent raw materials used: fresh fish of the day and a special attention to the quality of each ingredient. For a moment of sweetness, head to the important square Vittorio Emanuele II  where, among buildings with facades of the seventeenth century and the imposing arch dedicated to Margherita Teresa of Spain, is located the Gelateria Artigianale Carlin, whose origins date back over seventy years ago. Here, Anna and Damiano produce with passion and profession handmade ice cream, yoghurt, milkshake and unique fruit taste slush.

Comfort and with an enviable position are the key words of the two hotels which Italian Traditions suggests for your stay in the beautiful Ligurian city: Hotel Medusa, an historic palace of the seventeenth century totally renovated and equipped with all services and amenities, where guests have the opportunity to enjoy all the city finding themselves within its urban fabric, and Hotel San Pietro Palace, located on the sea front of Finale, immersed in the city life and convenient for all services.
