Desenzano del Garda, Wellness and fun

Amongst the splendid view of Lake Garda, green and fragrant flower gardens, groves of olive and lemon trees and forests of pine and cypress, we find Desenzano del Garda, a popular tourist town located a few kilometers away from Brescia, in Lombardy.

The town benefits of a beautiful natural and architectural landscape: the northern mountain range on one side, the waters of the lake and resorts on the other, including Sirmione nearby, all reachable within a few minutes by boat. After the unmissable walk along the lake, you can move towards the Old Market Square, Piazza Malvezzi, where you can admire several 17th century palaces, the Town Hall, the Palace of the Superintendent Veneto and the Duomo.

In the upper part of the village, instead, dominates the district of Capo Terra and the ancient Castle which, placed on top of the hill, dominates the whole city. A must-stop is also the Roman Villa, dating back to the 1st century BC, just a stone’s throw from the lake; today it’s back in a new light, showing its 240 square meters of beautifully polychrome mosaics.

Just a few minutes distance from downtown, St. Martin Tower of the battle and the fraction of Rivoltella are worth to be seen. If you find yourself near the Tower and you want to stop for a bite, to taste the traditional dishes, go to Osteria Alla Torre, situated on a large natural terrace in the renaissance park of St. Martin's Tower. Any particular signs? The best selections of meat and fish and an extremely stocked wine cellar that favors local wines.

In the historic center of Desenzano, instead, we suggest Trattoria Pizzeria Alessi, typical restaurant with dedication to the familiar hospitality of Nadia, Oscar e Bruno,  which propose tastings and revisited dishes, rigorously prepared with fresh products. A stone's throw from the lake, in an elegant yet relaxed atmosphere, awaits Restaurant Alla Lepre, young, dynamic and modern, confirms to be a central interest for lovers regarding kitchens designed by authors. Raw materials of quality, attention to natural and healthy food, a cellar of Italian and international excellences which make it an important stage while visiting Garda. The location of Desenzano in the largest bay of the Lower Garda, offers to the tourist well kept beaches organized with bars and kiosks open until evening, restaurants, pedalos, boats for hire, sun-beds and umbrellas. Although one of the city's strengths are its lively nightclubs, at the same time, you can find attractions for sports lovers: sports facilities, tennis courts, horse riding, surfing and sailing schools, water skiing, football and athletics.

Speaking about nightlife, we suggest to head to the Golden Beach, placed directly on the shores of the lake, ideal for aperitifs, events, evenings with friends. Here you can sip your drink with a view of the lake on a large garden with comfortable lounge chairs and canopy beds.

Lovers of outdoors will enjoy the pleasure of a day surrounded by nature, relaxing maybe with a picnic at Le Ninfee Park or at Tre Stelle Park. Remarkable is also the offer of accommodation facilities, luxury hotels, but also cheaper hostels and B&B. Italian Traditions has selected for you Hotel Benaco, in the historic heart of Desenzano’s pedestrian island, which welcomes guests in a three star hotel which has preserved the charm of the mansions which have experienced the season of the Belle Epoque, and Hotel Piccola Vela, where you shall be guests of the Polettini family in an exclusive historic villa converted into an original oasis of serenity.
